It’s officially January 1, 2024 in my time zone, so HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I’m with Goldie! Indoors is my sanctuary! No power means even the most average winter temps are #@*!ing COLD!

Time for hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows! And some popcorn, or maybe s’mores?

How can they be live if the power is out?

Skywalker had a similar reaction the first time our power went out after she moved inside, Goldie. She figured out that the other kitties and lack of wind made conditions at least slightly better inside than out. (She still thinks it would be better without the pesky humans in here, though.)

Burt is a barn cat. Most barns are not heated. I’m surprised his chyron isn’t a bit more snarky!

Depressing news that John Pilger has died. No more of his stories exposing the evil of our governments.

I’d agree with Goldie. If this happens year after year, why isn’t the infrastructure more prepared?

Being gently reared by a southern lady, I don’t even think in such language. “Fie!” or “Jesus, Mary, and Joseph!” is the worst I say.

We calculated that buying a generator was a better bet than not. It cost approximately two times our insurance deductible and that’s not counting the overall awfulness of whatever nasty occurrence could happen. So we now have about 4 days of power at full use of same and longer if we turn off anything not strictly necessary. So power to heat/ac unless weather is mild, appliances and, most important, the sump pump. The generator has its own full size propane tank.

So here’s hoping for a disaster free New Year!

Happy New Year to all! Having my morning coffee in front of a roaring fire this morning with Shorty on my lap, Beau at my feet and my husband snoozing in the La-Z-Boy. I wish nothing but good blessings to all of my Orbsters for 2024. We too have a generator so between that and the fireplace, we’re usually good to go when the power goes out.

That’s right, Goldie, you tell ’em! I love all of their winter gear, but Lupin for the win with the ear flap hat!

Happy New Year, Goldie. I don’t think she would be a great camping cat anymore. Cats, as well as people, get used to our comforts.

I remember in my youth my Boy Scout troop had one camp out always in January or February in Missouri. They would call it the Freeze-Out, and it was the brainstorm of a scoutmaster who, I think, went through the Battle Of The Bulge. The scoutmasters would sleep in a heated camper, and the scouts would be in our pup tents. As a kid, it was an adventure. As an older adult, I would murder anyone trying to make me do it again.

Happy New Year to all members of the Orb!! We have two sets of fireworks here in Barrie, one at 8PM for the kiddies, and then they reset for midnight. At the 8PM version, Imp came trotting out from the bedroom to ask what all the noise was about. I explained and he went back to sleep with the other cats. Midnight didn’t disturb any of us.

What happened to respect and decency in the comics? To have a reporter in a comic page speak like that is a disgrace. And to think there a children present in the Big Pink House On The Hill. I certainly hope Georgia doesn’t speak that way around her young impressionable children with such language. No wonder the world is in the state that it is in. Profanity runs abundantly from the mouths of people these days with no regards for others or the impression it makes. Simply disgraceful I say, disgraceful.

Goldie needs to review what’s FCCable.

Hang on, Goldie. today’s the last day of our Mercury Retrograde, so things should start working better real soon. As it has become customary to say for our various winter holidays, “Happy New Year to those who celebrate…”

Poor Goldie. I don’t usually feed the ferals at night, fearing the wildlife will become dependent on the kibble. However I put some out last night in case the fireworks upset them. I am working on shelters for them too. I was hoping to buy shelters, but unfortunately they will have to do with the ones I make. The free ones go to fast I’m afraid. I wish they could all find loving homes, preferably with power throughout the winter, to live in.

Oopsie is more than happy to be indoors. Even though I have it set at 68, still warmer than outside. (Okay, my cold isn’t New England cold, but still (live in the south)).

I am grateful to be snug and warm inside right now. All power lines in my area are deep underground, and we have not had a power failure in the almost 30 years I’ve lived here.

My apartment is at the very edge of a zone that loses power every time the weather is more inclement than “mild breeze”. It can be annoying to step out through my door and see lights on along the cross street a hundred feet away.

I do not tune into BCN for that sort of language! Bringing the outdoors in indeed.

Power outages are a CENSORED and they suck CENSORED

I don’t do New Year’s resolutions, but I do have a New Year’s wish: I wish that all cats and dogs in need of furever homes find them.

I had a surprise this morning. As I was heading outside to feed the yard cats, I stopped in my tracks and exclaimed, “Who shrunk Domino?”

And then Domino showed up as well. Yes, there was a mini-me of Dom out there this morning! The kitten wouldn’t let me near him/her, but did get something to eat.

Kitten was back again for supper. We’re hoping to be able to catch the baby, but so far it wouldn’t let us close. My kid who fosters talked to someone from the group she fosters for, and they are interested in taking the kitty if we can catch it.

Kitten is provisionally named Nemo.

Well, since the power is out, no one heard that.

I don’t like the term “power outage,” never have, and never will. It’s a POWER FAILURE, and it’s entirely the power company’s fault, even if caused by a natural event. Natural events happen, have happened in the past, will happen in the future. Therefore their occurrence should be expected and planned for in design and construction.
