   Beau traveled a fair way to get to us. He was saved, a rescue, Doberman Underground, fabulous organization, took him and half of the 51 dogs in, and a few months after we’d lost our other Dobe and were looking, had seen his picture and knew he was the one. We drove from mid-Michigan to Ohio for him, so he’s a well traveled guy! There are puppy mills down there where they’ve found 700 dogs on one property. I don’t know about money involved, but the mentality to turn a blind eye to that is just…I can’t even. I just can’t.

   I am often appalled at man’s ability to stick their heads in the sand and ignore the abuse in front of them. If they’ll do it to an animal, why would anyone think they wouldn’t do it to a human? Georgia is number 4 in the country for states with the highest number of puppy mills/animal abuse situations and yet, their government drags their feet, the rescues are constantly broke trying to help, veterinarians are overwhelmed with costs and people turn a blind eye. I don’t get it.

   We take our rescues as they come. Our current one’s ears were cut with scissors, we think. They were also never posted. He was rescued from a puppy mill farm in Georgia and was used as a stud dog. He should have weighed at least 75 pounds. He weighed 43. They were breeding for melanistic coloring which is one single color on the dog, so he’s all blue. No bow tie or stockings. He’ll always have issues, but he’s the sweetest thing and he adores our 20 month old granddaughter. I have no doubt he’d die for her. He bonded with her immediately. This is his story, in part, if the link will go through. You’ll have to fix it. He was one of two in the van.    What a wonderful story. All rescue dogs are heroes. We’ve been rescuing Dobermans for 40+ years and our current has the worst story of abuse we’ve rescued yet. They all come from so many different backgrounds and Smokey was a true testament to the wonderful fearlessness of them all.

   Thing 2, formerly Loaner Cat’s mom, has two as well. One isn’t into houseguests except for me. The other isn’t into anyone new at all…except for me. I have no idea why. But they’re adorable. And then there’s Garth who spends his time hanging out on the tops of doors…
