Just found out yesterday that the recycling trailer that usually accompanies the trash compactor truck to our pickup spot in this rural area has broken down. Now no one knows when or even if it will be replaced. So now we have to take cardboard, plastic, metal and glass to the recycling spots in one of the surrounding larger towns. We will sort and store to do a once a month instead of once a week drop off when we go to one of the towns to shop. But it is just inconvenient enough that many folks will now just throw everything into the truck headed for the landfill. The only thing the driver will intercept is cardboard which is not allowed in the landfill. It’s not easy being eco conscious in a red state.
I wonder if the new removable contact papers would help with the cabinet problem. There are lots of videos around about them. If you could find a light color with a surface sheen that might help. Two pairs of hands are probably needed too. Maybe you and J could get together and do both of your kitchens. Do you have under counter lights being installed? They help a lot especially in the evening and early morning. If not, the big river online has a lot of battery or rechargeable lights that you stick on the wall or under counter. Hubs bought a couple of packs and has stuck them all over. The one that startled me the most was the one right inside the door of the utility room so the overhead light switch is easier to see. These are motion activated so when I opened the door it flashed on. He hadn’t bothered to tell me he put one there.
The one thing in kitchen design that really drives me nuts is open shelving, especially in close proximity to the stove. Whoever came up with this idea has obviously never cooked anything and doesn’t realize just how far cooking fat can spread in the air. Then add in normal household dust and you have a greasy icky film all over those shelves and everything on them. So you need to wash the dishes and glasses even before you put food on them.
Your architects and contractors obviously forgot the first rule of remodeling…never trust the floor plans, always measure everything yourself.
I feel for you on the packing of books and art supplies. Be sure to request or acquire boxes of reasonable dimensions so they don’t get super heavy. Hope the flooring and wall colors will be more pleasant than the kitchen.
Glad to hear the surgery went well. Hope healing follows suit. At least at home you have a much better chance of sleep; hospitals are remarkably noisy places in the night hours.
I had no idea such a clever giant magnet existed! The prints are delightful and will certainly help your brightening project.
