Dumbfounded is a portmanteau of the adjectives “dumb” and “confounded”. I supposed that being confused by thunder (or becoming confused and thunderously loud at the same time) could happen, but it’s hard to imagine that it would happen often enough, literally or metaphorically, for a portmanteau like this to be useful and understood. Kind of like botox (botulinum toxin, the poison produced by Clostridium botulinum bacteria) is a thing, but satox (satori toxin, a poison associated with a state of enlightenment) is not.

Thunder means that you were too late.

Gobsmacked, twitterpated, flabbergasted, and horripilated.

Your concern is underfounded….

But I am, with lots of cracks. Such are the foundations.

Thunder is rather dumb.

Thunderfounded would be a state of panic, inspired by a loud noise or some such vaguely scary impetus, and resulting in actions not taken in response to rational examination of conditions, but entirely based in a mindless fight or flight response.

You should start using it immediately, if you want to get it into the dictionaries any time soon.

Philosophers exist to ponder the great “why” questions of our time.

Ha! Excellent question! I’ve never wondered that!

I suppose one could be “thunderfounded.” But could one be Thunder-losted? Perhaps instead of Dumbfounded, one could be Dumblosted, etc, and so on….

Not understanding the question, I started a website with an app called ThunderFund, to provide funding for flashes of inspiration that could strike it rich . . . which failed immediately.

Some people have been thunder- founded and lightening-struck‼️
