Many people think the public health response to a global virus that just appeared a couple of years ago should follow a fixed game plan, and they get angry when the plan changes.

But many of those same people think it is fine for coaches to modify their game plan at half-time. As if 22 football players and their rule book are more complicated than 7.9B people and a virus that follow no rules.

Tiny minds make huge demands.

Considering “Captain” Fauci has been studying for decades, like a test pilot, he is looking for all the information to make a safe passage.

The toon should be about Traitor Trump, with Steve Bannon reading to him the manual “How To Crash into Your Country, Yet Survive Your Own Personal Self.” Let’s face it: Trump would not have minded in the least if 20 million Americans had died of Covid, had he won re-election. That would include Bannon, it would include the Trump cultists, it would include Pence. Hell, it would include four out of five of his own children! (He might have shed part of a single tear had Ivanka succumbed to Covid…..) He truly is just that much of a malignant narcissist.

Jeff just doesn’t get that “novel” as in novel carnivorous means new, and relatively unknown. All the experts, including Dr. Fauci, are making changes to their diagnoses based on the latest information. Dr. Fauci is probably the most experience epidemiologist we have, but even he would admit he doesn’t know everything about Covid. To make an airplane analogy Dr. Fauci would be the navigator that uses Doppler radar to plot the best course for the plane.

Compared to balancing all the factors in combating an unknown virus, flying a plane is easy. What’s the burr under your saddle, Danny-Boy?

We should have had someone in that position who was experienced with Covid.

Or maybe someone like Scott Atlas who knew exactly what to do: “We WANT them infected!”

People have been trying to cure cancer and other diseases for years. Are all those people on this same level?

“Captain” Fauci has been very hard at work to provide the latest information on the pandemic, even as the virus keeps mutating. With Omicron so highly transmittable, infections are rising rapidly, even for many who are vaccinated and boosted. So many are testing positive that hundreds of flights were canceled due to the inability to staff full crews for holiday travel. Thus, Dr. Fauci is seen here learning to fly from the manual. He is not ill. He looks ready to take on the burden of getting holiday travelers home. And he has already done so very much good. So, my take is that this a pro-Fauci cartoon.

I have high respect for Dr. Fauci. I have some training in microbiology and infectious diseases, not a lot but enough to know that each seriously infectious disease behaves differently (and that’s why they are successful at being infectious). I just don’t understand the anger and hatred that has been aimed at him. He has been doing a very fine job of keeping up with the data and research we have and sharing it with us to the best degree such a thing can be done.

Captain Fauci knows how to fly, but he doesn’t know how to fly THIS plane. Nobody does.

He shouldn’t be shown reading the instruction manual, he should be shown writing it.

Captain Fauci, like “Sully", is capable of making a safe landing, but some of the “passengers” are committing suicide.

first thumb down for danziger in many years of reading his toons! If only beating this pandemic was as simple as flying airline jets… And if only people would help and get vaccinated when some progress is made and available, instead of behaving like spoiled brats, throwing spanners in the works…

I usually tend to agree with Mr. Danziger, but not in this “toon”. If Dr. Fauci is looking at a book titled “How to … Covid”, then he probably wrote it. And everybody is reading it, and he is writing the new revision, based on what has been learned from active research.

Oh for pity sake. Fauci is telling it like it is, and what “it is” keeps changing. Regressives hate that, and they hate that he’s honest and unflappable. And correct, which is the worst sin of all.

Disappointing for Danziger, who’s usually in favor of fact-based humor. I have a feeling he’s trying to make a point but got so caught up in the execution that the joke became unclear. Most will probably read this to mean that Fauci is inexperienced – though fifty years of public service would suggest otherwise…
