Some exist to a much lesser extent. Not all unions are still, in my opinion, valid. The projectionist union is no longer a viable union as the work is no longer dangerous, though it may be as one operator can operate multiple projectors and damaging a print can be very costly to the theatre company.
The Democrats are seeing that in the Republicans and do not want to follow suit. Republicans are controlled by business interests, just as the banana republics were.
