It’s an OK metaphor. But a quick-sand trap might be better. Murdering someone without warning, in that environment, has to be one of the least well considered things this admin has done. And that’s saying a lot !
Criminal intent as shown by the consciousness of guilt is one way. The action was intended, they made the effort to enact it, and it just didn’t work because A. The Ukrainians thought it was going to get them sucked into something — American electoral politics and b. If they asked, the USA would do the right thing because they’d see the problem. After all, they’d read our Constitution and modelled a lot of their own on us. We get a lot of passes from other people because they believe the lies we’ve told ourselves for 243.5 years since the Declaration of Independence. Trump initially got some cooperation and response because people in power in lots of places thought he wasn’t a crook; he couldn’t be a crook, he was the fucking President of the United States…MSPants’ idea is the Animal House response to violations of trust. “Look, you trusted us. You fucked up…”
Correction — Andylit’s idea not MSPants who appears to have most of his head bolted on correctly. AndyL seems to think that if you don’t get caught by the person you’ve swindled or extorted or beaten or raped, you’re not guilty. And if you do get caught, you just lie about it continuously and call names, and that makes you a great Human Being, a true blessing from God. Pretty miserable, stinking and puny God…and, Trump got caught. Clue sentencing music from Dragnet.
Don’t think his lizard brain is that well developed, Jason. Remember, this fool thinks he’s a hero. He believes his own bullshit. He undoubtedly thinks that all the impulsive, ignorant, dangerous, illegal and immoral things he has done since he beat up the first school kid and stole the kid’s lunch money, is a sign of how special he is.
Following up on Jason: Step 2- Commit an act of war and blame the victim// Step3-Bypass Congress, then watch them kiss your butt because you’re a war president// Step 4-Send poor young people to kill funny talking brown people who worship the wrong imaginary father figure in the sky// Step 5-Try to cut spending for the poor and VA health care// Step 6-Run for re-election as the war president while demonizing all who oppose the war- it’s a new year but the same old story
Those old enough, and attentive enough, to have followed the events of our international relations since WW II can see how the four steps indicated by the four sides of the game board above always put us right back in the same predicament we started with. Or if one hasn’t lived through the events, the lessons are there for anyone who studies our recent history.
But the fact that we keep repeating the cycle makes the game not so much Monopoly as Monotony.
Mr. Toles, I don’t think there is an exit strategy. I believe this assassination was done to obfuscate the upcoming impeachment trial and to gin up his base. Besides, I don’t think Trump is smart enough to think this up by himself. I see Pompeo’s hand all over this. By the way, I wonder if they will have to restart the draft system and raise taxes on the 98% to pay for the upcoming war. Hopefully Congress steps up and says NO.
The Bush – Cheney geniuses had no strategy going into Iraq other than to get control of the oil. Once they got the oil they had no clue as to what could, should, or would happen after that. That is why we are still mired there is a swamp of quicksand of our own creation. Americans are a smart bunch that is why we have been in Afghanistan so long we are building a stable regime there. It is almost as stable as Trump.
Here’s a useful website for smart treatments of our nation’s warrings: – https://www.tomdispatch.com/ … This site’s articles clarify much beyond my limerick’s simplistic complaint that “neoconservatives” are at fault:
Tom, you left out 2 things. ‘Pass Go, spend another 10 billion or so on the war’. ‘Coffin card, send another casket with a serviceperson to her or his home country’.
Don’t agree that they were “unaware”. They had not received the aid expected and knew something was going on and the liar in chief was in the middle of it.
To extend Mr. Toles’ metaphor and answer his question — “Exit Strategy?”: Given the board i.e. the Middle East, all you can do to leave is build escalators and then get on them. Sigh. I like Mr. Toles’ stuff, but it can be really depressing.
I don’t see any Andylit comments on Toles today. Too bad: I could use a good laugh at his illogic logic, his ignorance of both history and current events, and, of course, of science. Did he self-delete?
Fucking idiot Americans. To understand the motivations of the Iranians here, imagine THEY had one of YOUR leaders assassinated. Would you ever stop hating them, or looking for ways to get even?
