Brutus, I think Gladys will correct that “hard of listening” condition you have by faking you out with a call to supper only to hand you a rake and tell you to get to work in the yard.
When one considers that Brutus’s three primary sources of auditory input are his wife, his boss, and his mother-in-law, one can’t blame him for developing highly selective listening as a defense mechanism.
My wife and I have long agreed that we each only hear half of what the other says — and that’s one reason we’ve been happily married for nearly 39 years.

It’s called selective listening. She should’ve come in and told him the groceries are in the car, go bring them in and put them away.

I have to admit it’s nice to be able to play the age card once in a while, just as long as I don’t overdo it.

Brutus has selective hearing. If she had called ‘Come have a piece of cheesecake’ he would have been there in 2 seconds!

I’m afraid Brutus’ listening is much like Gladys’ adhering to a fixed budget.

Gladys is accusing him of having selective hearing? Ha! Brutus should have replied, “That is not true, I hear you now and I don’t want to.”

Brutus would not be called to dinner in my home. He might be asked to do the dishes, though. Eventually he would catch on.
