One son worked for a Canadian company and would rub in the fact that America was the only country to win it’s independence from Britain on the battlefield.
It’s dry enough here that the risk of fire is really high and every year someones’ property is damaged or destroyed by negligent use of fireworks. We’re going to slather on mosquito repellent and ride our bicycles to the county display.
I’ll feel unpatriotic if I cheated on my taxes or put my money into overseas bank accounts, or didn’t vote. I don’t need to scream out whose side I’m on, or rip into other Americans, I won’t fall for the garbage cable news propaganda spews out these days, to get us regular people fighting amongst ourselves.
Celebrating what? A divided nation? One where what party you vote for decides your hate for others? Where your race, religion and sexual identity decide how you will be abused by your own government? SCOTUSs recent decision shows how the Republicans own them and will control them to enforce their hatred for anyone who does not share their poison for anyone who is not like them.247 years of progress in the USA reversed by Trump and his cronies.
Canada Day here and I just took out last years flag and hung it. That’s it, that’s all. We will be having Nathans All Beef Hot Dogs today to celebrate The 4th for the Americans cause I got then in Florida!
The birth of the US should actually be celebrated on June 21; nothing happened on July 4 except John Hancock signing the Declaration (others were still signing years after the war), which was, at the time, just wishful thinking.
June 21, 1788 the Constitution was ratified. Only other possible date to celebrate truthfully would be in commemoration of it taking effect March 4, 1789.
And if you want to go with independence as opposed to becoming the country we know & love, that would be the Treaty of Paris being ratified May 12, 1784.
Ah, you history buffs! I shoulda known July 4 wasn’t the country’s actual birthday. But July 4 works. The next thing you’ll say is we ought to read a little more American history…so we’ll know the country has been divided before and yet, it survived.

Considering the price of ground beef, I’d say they spent enough this holiday.

Arlo has 5 hamburgers on the grill for just the two of them? I think he spent his fair share for the holiday.

That is a lot of hamburgers for two people.

Hey, we all have to fight inflation, Arlo. It’s our patriotic duty spend less.

By adding a few more sizes to your CO2-footprint you are totally American in your celebrating, Arlo.

There is a surprisingly lack of fireworks in our neighborhood this year.

why is everything equated to how much money is spent? Independence Day can be celebrated without spending much, if ANY, money.

Are they celebrating Canada’s birthday (today)? Or are they early celebrating USA’s July 4th holiday?

You are not celebrating properly unless the city leaders, firefighters, and professional display operators are jealous of your assortment.

Shrinkflation: I think Nathans’s Hotdogs are getting smaller so they can beat the previous year’s hotdog eating records.

Anybody ever heard of the United States? America is two large continents and Central America in-between.

If it’s just the two of them, why 5 hamburgers?

Because nothing says patriotism like spending 2 or 3 billion on fireworks made in China.
