Forget the 25th Amendment. Just impeach, remove and prosecute.

With only 10 days to inauguration, they’ll probably wait until he’s no longer in office

He needs to spend the rest of his days in prison. So does Junior who tweeted a video of them partying and celebrating while the invasion was going on.

Prior to Wednesday’s events I was willing to tolerate Trump’s Shite House occupation until the 20th. Even if he escaped the consequences of his four years of malfeasance and incompetence as so-called president*, I would grudgingly accept that, too. In short, invoking Cromwell’s orders to the British Parliament when he dissolved it (“You have no business here. Just go!”) was suitable for Trump. After all, Trump would still experience Prosecution Deluxe in New York, and be liable to the tender ministrations of an angry taxman; and those events would settle his hash pretty well permanently. But now, this is not a viable conclusion to his term and administration. Whether Trump resigns (and then Pence pardons him), is removed via the 25th, or is impeached next week, or stays until the 20th is not important now. The man, like Nixon, is a crook, and that fact warrants his indictment, prosecution, conviction, and punishment. It seems to me that charges of sedition and accessory to murder are the minimum applicable to Trump’s actions on Wednesday. The same conditions are warranted for his fellow travelers — the enablers, the toadies, the colleagues. The rioting members of Trump’s Wednesday mob seem liable to charges of insurrection and murder, too. The US simply cannot tolerate another Nixon Moment.

Would that this could be done, Lalo, but Pence won’t activate the 25th. So impeachment is the only avenue and since the Senate will have to vote to remove after he has left office, he’ll no longer be able to run for President again. This option is more acceptable to many Repubs in the Senate who would like to not face Dump in the primaries, again.

Mitch is afraid the symbolism of a 25th amendment or impeachment will harm the party. Like it’s not harmed already….

Pence would have to care more for his country than himself for that to happen. Pence does not project courage, intelligence, or patriotism.

    Reporter interviewing weeping rioter:

    Ma’am, what happened to you?

“I got maced. I made it like a foot inside and they pushed me out and they maced me.”

…Why did you want to go in?

    “We’re storming the Capitol. It’s a revolution!”

I fear he will be impeached and the Senate won’t convict. That could embolden his already brazen insurgents.

Skip right to section 4, vote yes, and have the federal marshals forcibly remove. Chief Justice Roberts is ready to swear Mike Pence in.

Without the 25th, a 2nd impeachment AND a conviction, and/or a felony conviction Diaper Don can and will run again. Remember that. Especially if his fat, yellow bastard minions pull off anything close to what their social media whack jobs are talking about for the inauguration. Look sharp, America – they’re still out there and further out there than you’d like to believe. This could get kinda sporty.

At this point, ideally I’d like anything that prevents the existence of “President Pence” for even a minute. Trump may or may not be able to pardon himself, but Pence certainly could pardon him and probably would. Keep him figuratively handcuffed for the next 11 days (“confusion” may be our ally at this point), and he can be literally handcuffed immediately thereafter.

I was watching the news, which I didn’t do for 4 years. I realized that we will never recover. Ever. Trump is the messiah that his base needed to unleash their hatred and violence with permission. It is a Pandora’s box that cannot be reversed. This will just grow and grow until the country implodes. There is no way to fix it. As long as a person feels they are on the side of right, which these right wing nut jobs absolutely do, they will fight for it. This is one instance where there is no winner, we all lose.

Almost nothing in the above comments connects Trump to the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, which Trump encouraged. Yet that attack is why he needs to be immediately removed from authority (25th Amendment doesn’t remove him from office , but does remove him from power)… in order to keep him from (e.g.) ordering federal authorities to allow further violence against the government and its individual members.
