If the Democrats win effective control of our federal government this November, will this do something to prevent/reverse the erosion of our constitutional democratic republic at the hands of the authoritarians?
Another year with idjits STILL trying to tell us that there’s no such thing as climate change. And even if there were, it’s totally natural, so humans cannot possibly fix it.
It’s still true that it’s too late to avoid the first of the effects, but not too late to avoid the WORST of the effects. But we have to keep plugging away at it, day after day, month after month. Not unlike the folks who are going to live through the pandemic.

2020 has been THE CURSE — the Trumpocalypse, a conflation of:
• 1918 pandemic
• 1929 economic crash
• 1942 concentration camps (for babies w/o parents)
• 1968 civil unrest
And some new innovations:
— unprecedented record climate-driven multi-state wildfires
— record climate-driven frequency and severity of hurricanes
— murder hornets
— national coin shortage (really?)
— large scale unprecedented migratory bird die-off
— death of nation’s top civil rights icon (John Lewis)
— death of the first “rock star” Supreme Court justice icon and pending replacement by a character straight outta “The Handmaid’s Tale.”

Problems Schmoblems – {4 beats/line}
Many a problem the pols won’t fix,
‘cause plutocrats pay for pols’ politics
with the expectation // that they’ll NOT serve the nation; … -
… – that instead, they’ll use rhetorical tricks
to downplay the hitches // in the schemes to gain riches.

(Take-off, “Blowin’ in the Wind,” Bob Dylan, 1962)
”Sowin’ in the Wind”
How many hills must firemen roam
Before wildfires they’ve controlled?
Yes, and how many homes must burn to the ground
Until every owner’s consoled?
Yes, and how many fools still say nothing is wrong,
Climate Change has not taken hold?
The truth, citizens, is burnin’ in the wind,
Truth is burnin’ hot in the wind.
.
How many times must people look up
And dark clouds above them to see?
More sand bags to fill, plywood to nail
Against storms that blast from the sea?
Yes, and how many more prayers and thoughts kindly sent
From those who live in snug safety?
The truth, citizens, is whippin’ in the wind,
Tattered truth is whippin’ in the wind.
.
How many swells must sweep over the coast
To flood nearby cities and towns?
Yes, and how many rivers must crest yet again
So that each place in a flood zone drowns?
Yes, and hear once again the officials’ mealy-mouthed words
That spew like useless vague sounds.
The answer, citizens, is floatin’ in the flood,
The answer is barely floatin’ in the flood.
.
How many times has Business denied
That World Climate Change is true?
Yes, and how many lies have filled media bowls
To spoon-feed the public false stew?
Yes, and while tragedies rise and sufferings mount
The deceptions continue to spew.
The answer, citizens, is to be voted by you,
The answer must be decided by you!

Après-Trump – {1.40 limericks}
I’ve a queasy feeling
that my country won’t soon be healing: -
- since après-Trump
we’ll continue to flump
and down the tubes we’ll be reeling,
‘cause his fans will remain
as democracy’s bane.
