Herein lies the joy of the much-maligned “Commercial Christmas”. When the fleeting joys of carols in church, family & friends gathering near, and feasting on turkey are behind us, we can begin to enjoy the “gold, frankincense & myrrh” that we found under the tree. If you find yourself with only socks and a Santa Claus tie, you have only yourself to blame. Send out suggestions to anyone that asks. If you have no friends that ask, make some. If family and friends have little money, fill a gift closet. Throughout the year, I look for bargains, including eBay, yard sales, etc. and store them for Christmas giving and receiving. Those thing destined for receiving are stored with a price tag that even my grand-kids can afford; and I always get exactly what I want; and the bargains I found in January & February come as a complete surprise when Christmas returns.
It is still Christmas. 1770s reenactors. Spent 6 days over 2 weekends in the 1770s at restoration village for candlelight nights event as a wife in 1775 visiting friends at a party. Each night there since Christmas we have counted down – 27th was the 2nd night party, 28th was the third night party, last night – 29th – was the 4th night party. Holiday continues to 12th night – January 6 called many things by different cultures – the Epiphany, Little Christmas, Three Kings Day (for Baldo in his strip – el seis de enero), etc.
