As ever, responsible people will have to pay the price for the irresponsible ones.
Like how if America survives the crisis that is Individual 1, we’re going to have to pass a law requiring all Presidential candidates to disclose their tax returns. And we’re going to have to amend the national emergencies act so it can’t be abused again.
But Lisa is right that we only have ourselves to blame. Abusers are going to abuse us every time until we kick them to the curb!
No one gave him the power. He’s trying to usurp it.
Now there are the gullibles who have bought into his gaslighting and think this clown can do no wrong. They and Trump must and will be stopped on November 3, 2020. #ABT – Anyone But Trump.
Congress should rein in the emergency powers act. If any of you have read it, it’s downright scary. While they’re at it, something should be done about the presidential powers in regards to executive orders. It’s been used too often to circumvent congress in situations where it simply wasn’t intended or anticipated.
We can’t blame either party for the creation of the so-called imperial presidency over the last 40 years. Both parties contributed to Congress abrogating its Constitutional authority of oversight and the intended system of checks and balances. Having said that, Congress created the problem. Therefore, Congress can fix the problem. The current Senate won’t allow that, of course, but it could be done.
Lisa has pointed out a very simple fact of law. There is no need to puff and bluster. It is what it is. The Congress that created the law screwed up. Both parties. They failed to consider the potential consequences.
Which puts this right in line with a huge number of other actions Congress has taken over the decades and centuries.
It is really frustrating when people defend a republican party that does illegal things. trump administration, North Carolina, Child imprisonment, gerrymandering, etc, etc, etc…

Lisa forgot that the “we” in her cartoon is the Republican legislators.
And also that HER GUY is grabbing power he is NOT entitled to.

The 1976 Congress had no idea that future generations would misconstrue the word emergencies as baldly as the Republicans are doing.

Would Trump veto a bill requiring all candidates to disclose their tax returns?

Once again, rather than trying to do anything about it Lisa is still trying to fix blame. At least she sees the problem.
It’s beyond time we impeach this charlatan.

As Gomer Pyle would say … “Surprise, surprise!” … Lisa Benson makes a reasonable point with her cartoon.
