Hi DKRAM & Other Vagabonds—The east coast of Florida is recovering and getting back to normal. The Conch Republic (the island of Key West) opened for business yesterday, according to news reports of a cruise ship passenger disembarkation…but from what I am seeing/hearing, a lot of the other keys are still in pretty bad shape…especially the middle keys. What the storm winds were on the Saffir-Simpson scale has a lot to do with the amount of damage and the status of the recovery at any particular geographic location (e.g., middle keys, Puerto Rico). P.S. A later news report says that the tourists did find some watering holes open on Duval Street, but that the town was ghostly quiet compared to “normal.” The article also said that some of the cruise passengers pitched in as volunteers during their 6 hours on the island. The ship was RC’s smallest, with 900 passengers. Whether the entertainer named Esme was on the ship was not disclosed (this last sentence is a throwaway to those who have been reading recent MW stories over at the Spanish GATURRO comic…).
