The school board met today over the current funding dilemma. One board member- a former airline exec- suggested that money could be made by charging students to bring their backpacks to school. He was dragged into the street and kicked.
Shhh! C’mon Greg don’t give them anymore goofy ideas.Next it will be no food or beverages from home allowed. All lunches must be BOUGHT in the school cafeteria.
This one goes out to all those folks who are indignant about the airlines charging us for our baggage so they can pretend our tickets are soooooo cheap.
Back when I was a schoolboy (36" and 8 miles uphill) the “cool” boys carried their books with one hand on their hip. The girls and sissy boys carried theirs with two hands before them. A well placed kick from behind would send the “cool” kid’s books and papers flying, but with the girls and sissies you walked in front of them and knocked them flying. Lord did that snow get deeper during one hour detention.Back packs? You going camping?A drawstring gymback was a lethal weapon and not to be used except on the girl you were sweet on. I suffered a tramatic brain injury from a geography book.
Oh Greg … Buckets is always great! Thanks! Stupid airline!! Lew, are you saying there was a boy in your class who was ‘sweet’ on you, and that’s how you suffered the injury from the Geo book?
As it is, in our district we pay for books, lab fees, supplies (even though we already send in supplies) and so on. My senior in high school this year had $268.00 in fees. For his first semester only. My son in middle school has $78.00 in fees. This does not include any sports fees, which they both will have.
@UlanIt really hurts the middle class. Because those students who have free/reduced lunch do not have to pay. At some schools that is 75 to 80% of the student body. At my youngest son’s school it is 60%. So, 40% of the parents are supplementing the other 60%. Yet some (myself included) are mere dollars over the requirements.
My kids go to Charter school. We buy supplies and pay science and art fees, but SO worth it! In some parts of California, kids don’t pay for school supplies, but they don’t get buses for field trips and sometimes no field trips. When we lived in San Ysidro, my kids had to ride the trolley to go anywhere and once had to ride the Amtrak. Try getting 100 kids and 10 chaperones on a trolley during rush hour.

Yessiree, nothing like paying an airline to loose your luggage. If SWA doesn’t fly there, I don’t go.
