I’m not sure if things will be better in 13 or 17 years, when the two different broods are due to emerge again. I might prefer to live in Brigadoon, which only appears for one day every 100 years.
They come out of the ground every 13 or 17 years to party: make a lot of noise, have a lot of sex, lay a lot of eggs, die young.
I love the cicadas and wish I lived where they are swarming this year. I will have to content myself with their kin, the annual cidadas. Less showy (all green, no red eyes), just as noisy, a lot less numerous.
Since cidadas can’t read, they will only be aware of the quiet peaceful neighborhood in which they awaken. Might be nice to be a cidada, or maybe just unable to read.
I guess we could all, like those noisy bugs, enjoy life without being bothered by the troubles of all that’s going on by not being a part of anything. But, most of us weren’t raised that way. We were taught to get involved with life. We weren’t taught to fence sit. But, there are those that are poorly informed and those are often the ones that have the most conservative, radically so, opinions and positions. They live apart from the world for its peacefulness, and vote for those they know nothing about. So, there are cicada people, living a wonderful life, though their lives are much, much longer than the lowly bug.
Totally corrupted Republicans want totally corrupted lying traitor, professional criminal and tax cheat Trump to be our fascist dictator and overthrow our Constitution.

When the next crop arises, will it be to forests, or deserts?

They are so cool. I remember the first time I saw them as a kid.
The hate some people are showing them is as insane as people thinking Traitor Trump is a strong man.

That’s just the media; If it bleeds it leads.

It seeing this I have learned that Cicadas are not prone to conspiracies or evil mayhem. They are amazingly noisy though.

We didn’t start the fire; it was always burning since the world’s been turning.
