Apple’s business model is why I’ve never bitten into them.

So they’ll absorb a billion dollars here and a billion there. Slaps on the wrist, chump change. For the rest of us, a thousand here or a thousand there means a whole lot more.

The Justice Department is suing Apple in a landmark antitrust lawsuit that alleges the tech company illegally engaged in anti-competitive behavior to build “a moat around its smartphone monopoly” and maximize its profits. Attorney General Merrick Garland announced the suit Thursday, and CBS News legal contributor Jessica Levinson broke down some of the factors going into the case.

People need to stop believing everything the government tells them. Did you not learn from the COVID nonsense? Just because Garland tells CBS that Apple has a monopoly does not means it’s true. In fact, given Garland as a source, my first reaction would be to think he’s lying.

Plenty of sources out there regarding market share by phone type. More than one reporting on data as of 2023. One example notes in the US, iPhone has a 57.93% market share. Android has a 70.29% global market share.

What statistics did Garland cite to come up with his monopoly theory?

    Think for yourself.

If Apple were anything but the largest, most successful American company and the second most valuable company in the world, these folks would be singing it’s praises to the high heavens.

I don’t like Apple product, the close architecture is an issue. I is less now that Apple has moved to Intel and not making their own chips. That being said, not being able to text back and forth is clearly on them and nothing more a software fix.

By controlling both the hardware and the software, Apple is able to deliver products that are far superior at a reasonable cost. Apple can do this because they’re saved the expense of making sure their software works with any hardware that any schlub can dream up. Since the early ’80s, Microsoft has never quite gotten the point of this.

How superior is “superior”? Ask any company that’s tried to automate their business processes on an Android tablet instead of an iPad.
