New electronic formats are killing print magazines. The new owners of Sports Illustrated are firing everyone so they can re-tool and come out with an all-digital edition. By firing everyone, they can rehire some and pay them less. It’s what businesses do; they treat workers and tradition with contempt.

Print magazines are on the way out. Newsweek gave up several years ago The list of other defunct magazines is long. The few that are left rely on elderly subscribers who like to hold what they are reading! Sports Illustrated was not going for elderly readers.
