It is a behavior. If you don’t have the behavior you can decide you’ll try it – a resolution is to try and modify/change a behavior. If you already do it, it isn’t a resolution.

It is far more helpful only to be honest when people ask for an opinion. If you go around spouting your honest opinion when no one asks, or cares, you may need to resolve to carry around a small container to hold your teeth when they are handed to you.

That is a terrible idea. Marcy is going to go around hurting peoples feelings on purpose. She will tell her small children their drawing is awful, or their attempt at something is bad.

You can be completely honest with people without saying anything that comes to mind. I have found out that being completely honest reduces the number of people who ask you for your opinion on subjective matters

Her resolution next year can be to try to get her friends back. I’ve known people who refer to themselves as “brutally honest” when really they’ve given themselves a license to be a pain in the… well, you know.

Absolute honesty would be a great practice if human beings were rational. They are not.

Oh, yeah…no way this could go wrong.

It just comes naturally to Crunchy.

Most people who make such a resolution are rather like Calvin—it only applies to THEIR “honest” opinions—not anyone else’s.
