All other world sports let you go home after a couple of hours except cricket where it’s a few days.

Sp what’s the penalty for violating the pitch clock? Adding an extra Ball to the pitch count, or what?

Similar to the recent discussions at NCAA on shortening basketball tournament games. The stated purpose is to protect the health of the players. ??

They are trying to help you save money. With a shorter game you can go elsewhere when its over for food that’s better and cheaper.

I remember when MLB lowered the height of the pitcher’s mound, because pitchers were “dominating” the game. Then somebody came up with the designated batter rule, because pitchers, as a rule, aren’t great hitters. Now they want a “pitch clock.” Not that I much care one way or the other, because I lost interest in professional baseball decades ago. Even so it saddens me to see the grand old game so degraded.

I can see why people want the games to be over sooner, but, really, why don’t they just find something more interesting to do in the first place? Looking at clouds, twiddling thumbs … the possibilities are endless.

If the rule ever actually affects concession income, they’ll sacrifice it in a flash.

Last year the pitch clock was used in AA ball and I thought it was a good move. It’s the players with all their adjust, re-adjust, step in step out of the batters box and pitchers taking an inordinate amount of time to throw the darn ball that has lengthened the game.

So the seventh inning stretch is just the seventh inning yawn.

At one time this would have been a bad idea. That was back when pitchers used to pitch WHOLE games and had to pace themselves. Now with pitchers usually lasting less than half game, adding the game of “beat the clock” doesn’t matter as much.

The game isn’t the same as when I had an interest in it as a young boy. MBL now has more divisions than they had teams so they have diluted the talent. I understand the reason$ for expan$ion. The boys of summer now play the October classic in November. More playoffs.

Trivia question: Who lost the 1994 World Series?

Answer: the fans – due to the baseball strike, there was no 1994 Word Series.

When MLB “came back” after the strike, I didn’t. I do enjoy going to the local minor league games, however.

Just like Nascar. They went to a playoff format hopefully to create more enthusiasm and excitement. I think its anything but. Ratings and attendance are still down. NHRA did the same thing, only it’s called the countdown to the championship. The majority of racers and fans in both motorsports don’t like the changes. Nascar and NHRA need to connect with the fans more ( more like a survey, maybe. To see what the fans LIKE.) Before they decide to make changes on their own. Making changes to any sport without support, Just damages the sport that much more. Somethings are best left alone!

If they really want to shorten the game time, shorten the length of the commercials between and during the innings. The players stand around waiting to play while the ads run. Don’t screw with the game, screw with the ad time.
