My profound sympathy to the British People. As to how they must be feeling, the closest parallel in our American history I can think of is the death of Franklin D. Roosevelt. Rest in Peace, Ma’am; God knows you’ve earned it.
Not many American leaders can evoke that sorrow, of course they do their 4 years and move on. HM was born into the job, lived through the war and served daily as an inspiration to many. Sorry you had such a problem with George III, but Liz would have been a great thing for the Colonies
As far as Queens go, they could have done worse. The Monarchy, on the other hand and by modern standards , is as corrupt an institution as any you will find. Those of you calling out hate and trolling, what I see noted here are facts and history. Its no more hate than is pointing out America’s history in maintaining the slave trade.
I seem to recall that Diana Spencer got the queen of hearts sobriquet. I realize she was a former princess and Elisabeth was the queen but still seems like an over used title. Especially as one famous queen of hearts was all for An “off with their heads” mentality
It’s a very nice tribute, but I’m surprised they aren’t clutching broken hearts. After 70 years, they say 80-90% of Brits haven’t known any other monarch. It must be like losing your mother.
Didn’t we fight the Revolutionary War to get rid of the British royal family? I don’t understand why we give a rip about it long after it became irrelevant even to the Brits.

Thousands of people were standing outside Buckingham Palace last night, in the rain, strangely quiet. Maybe that says it all.

Just don’t look on Irish twitter. Or a lot of English twitter, for that matter.

I’m not much of a Royalist, but I understand why they love her; she was a wonderful representative for the U.K.; a Lady, in every sense of the word.
