I miss the days when ESPN would show sports in the wee hours like Australian or Gaelic rules football, before they decided it was cheaper to have talking heads in the studio for three quarters of the day, instead of showing actual sports.
And before that, The Wide World of Sports introduced us to games from all over and that to the idea that the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat came in many different flavors.
I wish people wouldn’t use the term “cornhole” and would switch to “Bean Bag Toss” or something. Where I grew up in the Great Plains, “cornhole” had a strongly negative connotation. As a noun, it was a euphemism for ‘anus’, probably associated with the use of corn cobs in outhouses back in the pioneer days. As a verb, “to cornhole” someone was a form of sodomy — think of what happened to Ned Beatty’s character in ‘Deliverance’.
ESPN pretty much lost me when the talking heads started to dominate the programing. Especially keith olbermann, his name isn’t capitalized for a reason. Yes, I doubt they cared.

The adult version of cornhole: drive the car so you can open the door and retreive an object (pliers) from the pavement reaching out of the car.

Remember back in the 80’s (I think) when Tank Mcamara did a whole series on “trash sports?” This strip takes me back to that.

And is that a flat of pickles that the cat has to navigate? Horrors!
