I love hummingbirds! I wish I would see them more often.

Today is:

National Chocolate Covered Cherry Day. I happen to have a box of them. I’ll try to remember to eat one today.

National Fruitcake Toss Day. I didn’t think people tossed them. I thought they stuck them in the freezer to give someone as a gift next Christmas. Then that person gives it back to you (or to someone else) the following year, etc., etc.

National Drinking Straw Day

National Thank God It’s Friday Day. I absolutely LOVE Mondays! That’s my regular day off (Thursdays too). I considered asking management if they’d like me to come in to work today to collect overtime pay because inventory is on Thursday and we aren’t close to being ready. But I decided it would be more fun to stay home and put together a jigsaw puzzle that I got for Christmas. Managers are taking days off this week, so I don’t feel guilty taking my days off.

Good Grief! Just as I was leaving work last night, someone on the overnight shift told me that we got a half pallet of Christmas tree ornaments on yesterday’s truck! And he also told me that we were told that Christmas stuff may continue coming in right up until February! By then, things will be reduced to 90% off. Maybe I’ll be buying Christmas stuff yet!

There is no feeling in the whole world like having a hummingbird land on your hand.

I am grieving today. Yum Yum died yesterday morning.

Everyone around here has hummer feeders. Brad has two out there and they also like the honeysuckle and trumpets that we have.

Hummmmmmers!

That’s the cutest Annie ever!

I almost never see hummingbirds where I live, plus I am in a high-rise apartment, not even a balcony, so I cannot put out feeders.

But one day, I was taking a picture of a lovely flower in the park, and a hummingbird flew in as I took the photo — the wings were a blur, of course, but the body of the bird came out nicely. I was so excited. I switched to video mode and got some brief video of the bird flying around so incredibly fast.

Great pictures today. :)

That’s a nice drawing of Annie. Hummingbirds are so cool! I mostly see them in Spring and Summer, though I did once see one in Winter. On another note, saw five wrens and two varied thrushes while out walking today.

Saturday: Record high 76° with off and on rain.

Sunday: About 70 with showers. I picked a few straggler tomatoes.

Today: Snow

As some of you know I’m an Electrical Engineer, from time to time we get asked why transformers hum (I’s the magnetic flux alternating). Most of us give the standard reply “Because they don’t know the words” ;-)
