The next administration must destroy the environment that led to Drumpf. Corporate Democrats must address the issues of those who have been left behind.
Don’t worry, the Maga assassins have promised a violent overthrow of the legitimate government of the USA to keep their vicious lying racist dictator Trump the seditious disease spreader in power.
All of the various right-wing “Million”-themed marches that have been organized over the past several years (such as December’s “Million MAGA March”) have fallen well short of the million people they claimed to rally—usually, they number at best in the tens of thousands. But Sunday’s planned “Million Militia March” was a failure of truly epic proportions: It seems no one showed up to march. Not a soul.
Similarly, worries about marches on various states’ Capitols around the nation turned out to be groundless when only tiny smatterings of armed militiamen showed up at a few of the events that pro-Donald Trump “Patriots” said they were planning in places such as Columbus, Ohio, and Salem, Oregon. Both failures suggest that the American radical right is now in utter disarray, at least for the time being.
I wonder if these “patriots” realize this: If they were somehow successful in their attempt to stop Mr. Biden from being certified by the Senate and Trump proclaimed President, the democracy that they claim to love would have died on that day. They would not have handed Mr. Trump the Presidency but they would have made him a dictator and made the US a dictatorship. Well, maybe not a dictatorship in name, but this is how they start. Once he was handed power outside of the constraints of the Constitution, what would there be to stop him from doing whatever else he wanted? Is that the kind of country these “patriots” want?
David Letterman used to do a bit about idiotic headlines from supermarket trashbloids like “The National Enquirer.” His favorite was always, “Psychic’s Head Explodes!” The problem with the evil Donald Trump cult is that its pathetic members believe things FAR more idiotic than that!
Not that the execrable “John Adams” would be able to understand this (or, let’s face it, much of anything) but let’s hear from conservative icon George Will: "The three repulsive architects of Wednesday’s heartbreaking spectacle — mobs desecrating the Republic’s noblest building and preventing the completion of a constitutional process — must be named and forevermore shunned. They are Donald Trump, and Sens. Josh Hawley and Ted Cruz. Trump lit the fuse for the riot in the weeks before the election, with his successful effort to delegitimize the election in the eyes of his supporters. But Wednesday’s explosion required the help of Hawley (R-Mo.) and Cruz (R-Tex.).Hawley announced his intention to object to the certification of some states’ electoral votes, for no better reason than that there has been an avalanche of “allegations” of election irregularities, allegations fomented by the loser of the election. By doing so, Hawley turned what should have been a perfunctory episode in our civic liturgy of post-election civility into a synthetic drama. He turned this moment into the focus of the hitherto unfocused fury that Trump had been stoking for many weeks. And Cruz, by organizing support for Hawley among other Republican senators and senators-elect gave Hawley’s grotesque self-promotion an ersatz cloak of larger purpose. Shortly before the mob breached the Senate chamber, Cruz stood on the Senate floor. With his characteristic unctuousness, he regretted the existence of what he and kindred spirits have not only done nothing to refute but have themselves nurtured — a pandemic of suspicions that the election was “rigged.”“I want to take a moment to speak to my Democratic colleagues,” said Cruz. “I understand your guy is winning right now.” Read those weasely words again. He was not speaking to his “colleagues.” He was speaking to the kind people who were at that instant assaulting the Capitol.
Will concludes: He was nurturing the very delusions that soon would cause louts to be roaming the Senate chamber — the fantasy that Joe Biden has not won the election but is only winning “right now.”The Trump-Hawley-Cruz insurrection against constitutional government will be an indelible stain on the nation. They, however, will not be so permanent. In 14 days, [obviously, the column was written on the day the traitors attacked our democracy] one of them will be removed from office by the constitutional processes he neither fathoms nor favors. It will take longer to scrub the other two from public life. Until that hygienic outcome is accomplished, from this day forward, everything they say or do or advocate should be disregarded as patent attempts to distract attention from the lurid fact of what they have become. Each will wear a scarlet “S” as a seditionist.
Reminds me of “The Short Timer” cartoon that most veterans would remember. A Helmet with the tips of boots sticking out at the bottom. Variations of headgear depending on branch of service.
YOU HAVE ENLIGHTENED ME! When I was a teenager I learned a song called “Where Did You Get That Hat.” I still sing the chorus sometimes (seriously, it’s catchy) – so my kids know it, too. And for all of us, the question has always been: Why on earth was this song even written? Well – I just checked this – it was written by Joseph J. Sullivan of New York in 1888, which was the year Harrison was running for President. So NOW I THINK I KNOW! Or at least I finally have one possible hypothesis. :)
Lyrics, for anybody interested:
Where Did You Get That Hat? Joseph J. Sullivan;copyright 1888.
Verse 1.Now how I came to get this hat / Tis very strange And funny: / Grandfather died and left to me, / His property and money. / And when the will it was read out, / They told me straight and flat; / If I would have his money, / I must always wear his hat!
Chorus. Where did you get that hat? Where did you get that tile? / Isn’t it a nobby one, And just the proper style? / I should like to have one Just the same as that! / Where e’er I go they shout: “Hello! where did you get that hat?” /
There are 2 more verses. See: http://www.traditionalmusic.co.uk/songster/22-where-did-you-get-that-hat.htm (Apparently it was also popular in English music halls.)

If it was even possible to condense my feelings of the past four years into one comic strip, this would be it.
On Trump’s last full day in office, after all that’s been said and done, it really just came down to being one big empty hat.
Good riddance.
