Around here, 45ºF is a problem temperature: If I wear enough to be comfy as I step out the door, I’m too warm be the time I’ve walked a half a mile. Or, I can be too cool until  I’ve walked a ways… as long as a breeze doesn’t come up. Ten degrees either way from 45º, though, and I’m sure what’s needed.

Right now, 45° and no breeze is hoodie/light jacket weather for me. 45° and windy is hood up + an extra layer underneath. The winter coat doesn’t show up until winter weather shows up.

One October, I was waiting at a bus stop in Winnipeg, with a colleague from Zambia. Temperature -20 C (-4 F). He moaned that it was so cold. I told him “In four months we’ll be standing here and the temperature will be the same and we’ll think it’s warm”. He laughed. I happened: four months of temperatures down to – 40 C (-40 F) and back ‘up’ to – 20 C, we were standing at the same bus stop, with our jackets open…

I’m surprised to see oblique political partisanship here; “45” clearly refers to someone specific….

45° in most of the world means global warming is insanely out of control.

Well, I just jogged in 45° weather. Maybe I have more in common with Frazz than I thought.

I had a similar revelation in Boise, but with the spring and fall versions of 55ºF. In the fall, 55ºF felt really cold! In the spring, 55ºF was so summery! It’s all in your acclimatization.

Back in my teaching days, recess duty meant that 45 degrees in the fall had the kids huddled up by the building; same temperature in the spring had them begging to take off their coats.
