There was a teenager in my town whose family had to pay $16k because he pirated an album and burned a few CDs. I’d hear similar stories all around the country. I doubt the record companies were hurting that bad, just needed to send a message. Didn’t really stop my brother (allegedly).
It hasn’t been verified but most fans believe that the parents are dead. On the show, Robert has mentioned several times that he bought their house with the boys inheritance.
That was Jason Collins. To be honest he wasn’t really a standout player, basically a guy coming off the bench on an average team. Even the season before he came out, I think he only played a few games. The Nets signed him, but only for a couple of months, and it kinda felt like they did it for marketing purposes. By that time in his career, there were plenty of younger, more talented guys at his position, not to downplay his skills though.
