@ Linguist Today’s strip is slightly funny our Hero Mr Andrew Capp is displaying to his pal Chalkie that he is a savant on the subject of Macbeth without having a clue of what he’s babbling about :o) and in keeping with today being a Friday the 13th being unlucky I heard that in thespian circles it is also a hex to mention the name of Shakespeare’s play by name , my avatar is a picture of my fav song “Sitting on the dock of the bay” by Otis Redding which was my persona when I was younger , I would not let anything phaze me , not like now , I have become a worry wart and make mountains out of molehills , driving my better half bonkers in the process :o) how was your day? our Finally Friday should be very busy but calm I hope , a bientot mon moins vieux Ami

Well, here in the States we’ve got mad King MacTяцmp, who is beginning to realize that the Birnham Wood is coming to Dunsinane. It’s making him more nuts than ever. What I’d really like to know is if Joe Biden was born by Cesarean section. Someone said that Mike Bloomberg was…

The real MacBeth was a very popular Scottish king. He reigned from 1040 to 1057. His reign was so stable that he was able to make a pilgrimage to Rome in 1050 where he is recorded as having “scattered money to the poor”.

MacBeth’s downfall came as a result of his charitable nature. He gave aid and refuge to survivors of a failed Norman invasion of England so the English plotted successfully with his enemies to have him overthrown and killed. Nine years after MacBeth was killed, there was a successful Norman invasion of England by William the Conqueror. Nine hundred years later, England won the World Cup and I was born.

In the theatre, that play is considered the bad luck play and superstitious actors refrain from ever quoting lines from it … or even mentioning its name.

Over my life, I’ve acted in three different productions of The Scottish Play ( I even played one of the three witches in one production ). All three productions had accidents, strange occurrences, and unfortunate incidents happen.

I’m not superstitious … of course, I never whistle in a theatre dressing room, throw my hat on a bed, or wish another actor good luck!
