Personally, I don’t drink coffee. I have been known to use and IV bottle of STRONG tea.

And a big “Thank you” and a double coffee-black- to those unsung heroes that get out there at 2 am to plow the snow from the roads so the local idiots think they can drive 75 with one hand on the wheel and coffee in the other.

Bit of economic pedantry here: “Most produced”, “most consumed”, and “most traded” refer to 3 distinctly different measurements. In particular, “most traded” is highly dependent on the length of the supply chain.

Eat chocolate covered coffee beans and you don’t have to stop as often.

There are conflicting reports. According to “Perfect Daily Grind” brewed coffee is the 98th most traded product (as opposed to commodity) and green and roasted beans are 114th and 301st most traded commodities respectively. And yet, according to “Economicshelp.org”, coffee IS the second most traded commodity.

Commodity is defined as a raw material used in a productive process or consumed on its own. Coffee beans, both green and roasted are commodities while brewed coffee is a product.

You know, I’m not actually sure all the delivery guys work gadzoople overtime. I was talking with the neighborhood UPS driver, who seemed plenty alert and not at all jittery and irritable, and he mentioned that he and the other drivers were granted — required — a reasonably long gap between shifts. I think it was 14 hours. It could be argued that 14 hours between shifts, if done too many times in a row, doesn’t leave a lot of room to get much done besides your job and get home and rest and get back to work, but it’s a start.

And that was the UPS driver. I have never met a UPS driver or even a UPS employee who wasn’t supremely cool. Same with my USPS carriers. Maybe the more gig-oriented private delivery drivers are just as consistently cool and safe, but I’ve never gotten a close enough look to know. Maybe I could get a small clue if I can sneak a peek and see just how big a Thermos they’re packing.

Sadly, it’s not even in the top 10.
