My clinic used to be near Langley AFB. I treated quite a few scientists involved with the moon landing. At first they were astounded that anyone thought it was fake. Now, some of them go out to talk at schools so the kids get the truth.
The source of this stupid meme is “Capricorn One”, a science fiction novel by one of my favorite authors Ron Goulart. It is a NOVEL! He does not believe the moon landings were faked, why should you?
When it comes down to it, CBS and NASA really brought this conspiracy theory upon themselves. If NASA hadn’t been so zealous to sell the public on the landing that it felt compelled to contract with CBS to create staged visuals depicting what contemporary video and photographic technology wasn’t capable of documenting live on television, it’s unlikely the knuckleheads who bought into the conspiracy ever would’ve conceived of it on their own in the first place. I’d venture to wager not a few people who’ve watched NASA’s CGI-crafted conceptualizations of its more recent missions probably think what they’re seeing is actual camera footage.
