What they are called is Dermal Plates, and they are, are highly modified osteoderms (bony-cored scales), similar to those seen in crocodiles and many lizards today.
If the ant speaks for the artist, I can empathize. Anything that requires the same schedule and demand for improvement each Sunday can be hard to take after so many years. But, then, in doing it for so long and so well, it can be said, one is hoist on his own petard, i.e., you chose it, you own it.
That being said, I appreciate what you do, and I hope you will continue so long as you find satisfaction in the doing.
BC used to be about BC and his cavemen and women friends, with occasional interaction with ants, turtles, flightless birds with hairy feathers called apteryx and the occasional dinosaur. I haven’t seen a caveman in months.

If the ant was in the path of that stumble, his wish was granted.

I remember when this comic strip was at least cute and often downright funny. How about bringing back Wiley’s Dictionary?

They are not fins. Fish and airplanes have fins.

And here I thought Dino was going to shout, “The Fing is a Kink!” or the like.

Is “gallup” the noise you make when you run away from a pollster?
