CNN has reminded us that after every school shooting, when the furor dies down much is forgotten. How about they devote even five minutes a week to list multiple deaths by guns that week. Remind everyone that this is a daily occurrence. Or at least give viewers updates of what the “kids” (in Parkwood) are doing so everyone will know without being reminded ONLY after the next shooting.
So now the Republicans, who keep taking money away from education, want to spend many millions on school defense. Education gets $0, but guns get unlimited $$$$$$.
I hear that upwards of 80% of Americans want stiffer gun control. I every one of us donated one dollar, we could buy the NRA’s congressmen and be done with this.
The gun lobby, the NRA, is out to make every tragedy an opportunity to extend market share. It’s a great business model. How soon before we hear, “Give a nun a gun!” at parochial school PTA meetings.
One of the surviving kids at Douglas was mistaken for the gunman. Fortunately he was merely handcuffed but later released. What if he was shot by a police officer or a teacher?
There are people who believe a trained professional such as the police can, in a ‘situation’, shoot the gun out of a perp’s hand. And they say, even shooting to disable is tricky.
The American AR-15 “experiment” has failed American citizens, but has lined the pockets of the GOP enablers, arms dealers,Fox news,Russian trolls, and the NRA.
Apply Occam’s razor. Do we want to hire and train 100,000 additional police so we can put one in each school(hoping for an appropriate response)? Do we want to arm and train several teachers at every school and then figure out how to station those armed teachers at all school entrances(even small schools have more than one entrance)? Do we want to eliminate all entrances and exits but one for all schools(and install a metal detector)? Do we want to encircle our schools with double eight foot chain link fences topped with razor wire including 20 foot kill zone and corner guard towers? Do we want to create a federal bureau to register every mentally ill citizen(and non-citizen) and evaluate their threat status? Do we want to eliminate(or at least limit) mass shootings by reducing access to the required tools(ban assault weapons which are really only good for killing large numbers of people quickly)? Sorry this is so long, but we need to think this through.
Now we know why the GOPers put so much energy into saving the unborn. It gives their gun toting crazies more targets after they’re born. Power to the fetus and the hell with the post birth folks.
The rank and file members of the NRA tend to be fairly rational, whereas the “leaders” of it tend to be extreme. (And at least one seems to be insane……) The NRA’s “leaders” position is that raising the age to purchase rifles from 18 to 21 will “prevent teenagers from being able to protect themselves.” Question: what about little 6 year old kids? They’re being prevented from being able to protect themselves!
We have two historical allies which are a lot like us: majority northern European ancestry, still significant indigenous minority increasingly vocal, increasing immigration from Asia, frontier culture including guns a significant part of the folkloric tradition, legal structure derived from English Common Law, etc. Yet they have a higher standard of living, greater longevity, less poverty, than we do. Why don’t we avail ourselves of their successful experiments and simply adopt wholesale the Canadian health system and Australian gun regulations?

Of course. You know God would never allow a righteous bullet to harm an innocent child.

Don’t want to pay enough for a person to live on, but want them to carry and use guns. Do they have to buy their own guns, too?

THE GUN LOBBY’S “SOLUTION” – {rhyme}
Such a “solution” the Lobbyists urge; -
- MANY more guns, as school systems splurge
so that More and MORE the profits emerge.
“Protecting the students” just doesn’t much matter;
the Lobbyists just want their bank accounts fatter.

Cheap Republicans took away the tax deduction for teachers to buy supplies and police to buy uniforms because billionaires need their tax breaks.
If republicans force teachers to take up arms
force republicans to give them combat pay.

Of course this was the first recommendation by the NRA & Donnie dumber. More gun sales and $$ into gun manufacturers’ and politician pockets.

Let me help you out. The gunman is the one with the gun, not running away from the gunman or laying on the floor.

Some folks are calling the AR-15 the Rubio, since it’s so easy to buy in Florida.
