Joanie is right. Technically, it’s not live; it’s taped.

A little too much joy, there, Andy…

When your time is short, take the time to enjoy what you’ve got. Play with it. I admire Andy’s attitude.

Say your piece, Andy. I’m sure you’ve thought long and hard about this – at least I sure hope you have – so say what’s on your mind however you want to say it. I would need to work from notes.

I wish everyone had such an upbeat feeling about death. We all die, it’s not a huge shocking occurrence. Andy’s attitude is removing the sorrow from his passing, and replacing it with joy. And why not?

A Celebration of Life is a party for someone who’s dying but still able to appreciate having friends and family gather around and say the things that normally are said at the funeral. I know of one woman who did that a few weeks before her husband passed away. It meant everything to her and those who were there and to him.

    “Heeeere’s Andy!”

“Good evening, folks. I just flew in from LA and boy, are my arms tired… [Bonk! Bonk!] Hello? Is this thing on? Hey, I’m dyin’ up here…”

I had a very good friend who was dying of cancer. He refused to “go out” in the hospital and wanted to die at home surrounded by friends and family.

He threw one helluva an Irish wake – while he was still alive and able to enjoy it !

The party lasted the entire day and into the night, with “himself” holding court from his ‘deathbed’. Over 150 friends and neighbors showed up to say goodbye and celebrate his life and friendship. A great big man with a big heart and a great sense of humor.

He died two days later, peacefully, in his sleep.

I feel the same way about weddings. Do the ceremony fast, get it over with, and head off to the reception for the big party.

Actually, this is not unlike what David Bowie did with his last album and particularly the song and video “Lazarus”, though Bowie’s video was less obviously upbeat.
