Our ideas of what constitutes a “fancy phone” have certainly changed rapidly. “With an MP3 player” forsooth.
The last of my middle aged friends finally gave in and gave up his flip phone for a smart phone. Admittedly it was a four year old one of mine that I gave him, and he still mostly uses it for phone calls and texts. But at least he has an actual keyboard now for the texts.
I had my phone die and when I called their tech support, they told me I had to call from the broken phone so they could verify who I was. I took it in.

Am I a Luddite for wanting a phone that makes calls and maybe just an occasional text?
