Much like Houston City Cemetery, where some of my ancestors were buried. In 1924 City Council decided to plow it up and build a charity hospital. Somewhere between 6,000 to 10,000 graves were desecrated by “progress.”
I saw a program recently where they said it is illegal to move graves without permission of the family. Perhaps it was in reference to “historic” graves, such as revolutionary or civil war casualties. The point was about 3 graves that had to remain intact even though they were embedded in the asphalt of a runway. The owner of the airport had removed the markers so that he could sell the airport without disclosing the graves. He ended up in prison. In any case that would make it difficult for a developer to plow it up.
