Shortly before I was born, back in 1950, my mom had her furnace switched from coal heat to gas heat. Somehow I don’t think very many people will want to convert back to a coal furnace.
I find it interesting that people will sit back and complain about destroying the environment with fossil fuels while they tear down more and more old growth forests to build their classy neighborhoods and expensive over the top homes. These are the same people who wanted to get rid of the old incandescent light bulbs to replace them with those twisted florescent bulbs that contained mercury.
The war on miners was run by the owners of coal companies going to mechanization, ignoring safety, and going for “mountain top removal”, cutting almost all those jobs folks worry about, and keeping production at or above prior levels. What we don’t burn here, we EXPORT, check the ports and where those coal trains are heading! Priofits for the companies and CEOs haven’t suffered under Obama.
I hope some of Payne’s readers are old enough to realize just how twisted this cartoon is.
Part of the problem is the affection policy-makers have developed for the notion of “war on this” and ‘war on that". Not every program or policy needs be a “war”. Or perhaps typical considering the country hasn’t bothered to formally declare war since 1941, the many military operations since then notwithstanding.

Considering that we probably use way less coal today than we did in the 19th century, I’d say we can go forward on coal usage…

Right wing parallel universe where destruction of the environment for profit is seen as a good thing and oil profits are king.

The sheer absurdity of this cartoon, even by Payne’s standards, made me laugh.

His list of appointees is like having Larry Flynt loan out Chester the Molester to run day care Facilties.

" I’m sure horse traders hated the war on equestrian mobility with the invention of the automobile too."
They did. Look at the laws enacted for autos when they first started being introduced.
