explain to me please what these so called background checks are going to do?would any background check have stopped any of the past mass killings? As far as I can remember, the monsters did not go out the night before the killings to get guns. they had them for a long time before going nuts. We have similar laws here in Canada were you must show to the RCMP (police) that you are stable mentally have a job and a good marriagebefore you can get you license to purchase a gun. that’s great until 8 months later after getting your license you lose your job after your spouse leaves you for a fellow worker. The problem with theses checks (and I have no problem with them to get your license) is that there is never a yearly follow up or if something changes with your life it can not be removed.this law is ok but don’t think it will change anything but make the public feel that at least something is being done

I use to like your stuff. We should control cars also. They kill people also.

Cars kill more people than guns. Should we require all private people who sell their car to get a license to sell cars? You never know if the person you’re selling it to will use it to mow a bunch of people down, or to kill themselves…

Consumer protection is everywhere. Automobile design and use is highly regulated; feed for livestock; house construction; children’s toys; workplace safety, etc, etc. Guns in America is the one area in the civilized world that the manufacturers and marketers have cowed the legislators into giving them relatively free reign to do whatever is profitable. Yet it is guns (particularly assault rifles and high capacity magazines) that are designed and manufactured to kill and maim as effectively as possible. It is a strange value system and a sad commentary on ineffective government.

Traceable guns and ammo would leave a trail for crime investigators. A simple step to hinder the “bad guy.”

Chicago gun deaths should be added.

Executive orders are permissible in the absence of legislation specifically prohibiting the order.

I can’t seem to find the part of the Constitution that says that. I did find this part:

All legislative Powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States, which shall consist of a Senate and House of Representatives. (Emphasis added.)

Carmakers are working tirelessly to make cars safer. The NRA is working tirelessly to make guns more lethal. See, no difference.

The sole purpose of guns, however, is to kill things….…which is why we issue them to police and military personnel.

with no end in sight. It would be nice to close these loop holes, but some feel their right to a gun supersedes other’s right to life.

Are you saying that there’s no solution possible for the rash of mass killings we experience in America?Should we adopt the “solution” they have in France?Perhaps the government should have a monopoly on mass killings. (See Third Reich and Soviet Union.)

And totally unqualified and insane citizens. What could go wrong?Who gets to decide who “totally unqualified and insane citizens” are? A psychiatrist (like Nidal Malik Hasan)? A lawyer (like Lois Lerner)? Secret Service agents (like the ones who visited Tom Francois)? An elected official (like His Glorious Magnificence)?Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

My CCP requires renewal and another background check every four years, proof of training in gun safety, AND the ETHICS of when to use or NOT USE deadly force, and as it links me to gun ownership, makes my doing “straw sales” or letting criminals get my guns with or without my permission, a serious problem for me. Over time, while the illegal guns out there will take a while to get rid of, this system on a NATINAL level, would greatly reduce nuts, criminals getting guns, like from dealers at gun shows who are not licensed and provide a large number of the illegal firearms out there.

Only less than 5% of criminal homicides are committed by the mentally ill, and the EO calls for more employees to prevent those folks from getting guns, just what the NRA asks for!!

Gun violence is not just drug related, but most are either crime and/or gang related, or spur of the moment DOMESTIC VIOLENCE committed against family or “friends”.

Without an outright ban on guns, the loop holes we close will save lives. The more we do and the sooner we do it, fewer graves will be filled with gun deaths.

There would be many more graves for Doctor caused deaths. Should show those also.

And the ‘toon only represents some, but not all, of the open graves waiting for tomorrow’s victims.

How about marking each headstone: “I was in a gun-free zone and all I got was this lousy coffin.”
