If it can be reused, I do it. It is a lot more affordable.

I have discovered that if you mark those plastic cups with a permanent marker, the name can be removed with some rubbing alcohol. A friend of mine did that, and I thought it was worth doing, though I do not have people over to my house for parties anymore. Having them at my house just makes me very nervous. Don’t know why. So I just go to other’s homes and bring a lot of food.

When my sister was still at home (she had ALS) we all went over there to make Easter Dinner. The girls and I did the cooking, and brought those nice plastic dishes and cutlery from Costco. My sister wanted to get up and help us wash it all. The idea, of course, was to save her any work. Eldest daughter put it in a bag and told her we’d wash it at home. We tossed it all.

Back in the 80’s when I was a little girl, I knew an elderly woman in her 80’s who used to wash and reuse straws. That was the first time I ever heard of someone reusing plastic. Now as an adult, I try to reuse plastic utensils. As for straws, I bought a pack of metal ones that I use all the time.
