The ideologies of the house and senate is not even close to the ideologies of the voters, yet, they continue to empower them, proving that we get the government we deserve.

Mangy Moose, does “W” still have a veranda in his condo in Dallas like the one he had at the ranch, improved considerably at taxpayer expense, that he moved out of? (sold?)

Iraq stood a chance. At least they were used to having a government. It wasn’t always a good government, but the country had a concept of government.

The last time Afghanistan had a central government was during the Mongol Empire. Since then it has been a collection of little states each ruled by its own warlord.

dflak: the jurga was far more a democracy, before Taliban or Karzai. Local rule with the Grand Jurga coordinating for the benefit of their people. Yep, westerners have always made things better.
