When I briefly moved to the southwest in back in the 80’s, I got my first taste of the Spanish culture. Yes, I know it’s on every block now, but not back then. So anyway, my second year there people were talking about celebrating the upcoming Cinco de Mayo and I commented, “Didn’t we do that last year about this time?” I’m not sure which was louder; the immediate silence or the laughter that followed the silence.
I never knew they were tied together, but when you think about it – it makes sense.
Of course Jesus’ birth is not really in Dec – there would not be new baby lambs in that season. So it’s not a stretch to think they also adjusted the date for Easter too. It’s nice to know that one is based in fact.

Ah, but “beggars’ night,” as they call it here, almost never takes place on the 31st. I’ve never been quite sure of the reasoning behind that.

Halloween on a Saturday night: bet there’s extra security patrols and interesting news tidbits the next morning.

But Columbus Day isn’t always the 12th as it should be nor George Washington’s birthday the 22nd.

I find it ironic that the date of the holiest day on the Christian calendar is calculated by the phase of the moon.

WEEELLLL, I saw on FB that for the first time in 666 years, Halloween falls on Friday the 13th.

They might be lunar calendars to some, but they’re loony to me!
For me, there is only one calendar, and New Year’s day falls on January 1 every year!
