I would like to wish everyone a very happy beginning to the LAST year of the first decade of the the Twenty-first century. Unlike the media which seems bound and detemined to claim the decade ended already, it is obvious the only way that could have happened is as was suggested by someone here that the first decade only had nine years and the first century only ninty-nine years and the first millinium only nine hundred and ninty nine years, which is by definition a total absurdity. I am personally insulted that people say I should accept this because it is convienent. It insults my intelligence and it tarnishes my integrity to accept a lie merely because it is convienent. And so have a very happy last year of the decade everyone.

I suspect that Mom hasn’t actually found them yet, under the confetti.

@ Redkaycei - in any case, better to start the New Year with a smile.

Very kind of Mom to put up with the party; hope there’s some recompense for her!

    Happy 2010, all!

@ Redkaycei if you celebrated christmas that statement just makes you a hypocrite, or most of the major “christian” holidays for that matter.

I wonder what Dictionary you use? My websters has the first and last but not number 2…. Shadowwriter I don’t have a clue as to what you mean, and for the record I am a spiritual person who thinks orginized religion is one of the greatest evils man has ever invented.

One may believe in the divinity of Christ without adhering to any “‘organized” (or “orginized”, for that matter) religion, of course, but if you do not believe that the presumptive birth of a single individual in Judea is the definitive event of history, making it appropriate to mark all years before and after in relation to it, then of course you must grant that the designation of this new year as “2010” is completely arbitrary. It is only approximately 2010 years after an event which may have no significance whatsoever; the calculation may be off by as much as six years in either direction anyway.

By the way, astronomers designate the year 1 “BC” as Year Zero for the purposes of their calculations…

What’s in a number? That which we called “the 00’s” by any other number would smell as rank.

when we’re counting apples we start at 1; when we’re counting years we start at 0: but it’s confusing: my 2000 Chevy was 10 years old in 2009; but a person born in 2000 is 10 years old in 2010.

I guess Heart and Dean’s party really did have blast (by having a LOT of confetti all over Heart’s home thanks to Dean and his confetti cannon).

Let the cannoneer sweep up the confetti and use it as fire starter in the fireplace. Just a thought.

Thank you Red Kaycei! it’s nice to know some people know how to count the years in a decade!

You count years starting with 1 just like everything else!

    You count 1 to 10—-not 0 - 9
