Stone Soup by Jan Eliot for April 21, 2012
Transcript:
Joan: Who's Karl Rove? Val: He was the mastermind behind the Bush campaign. Val: People like Rove, Cheney and the Koch brothers have a huge influence on the political process. Joan: Really? 'Cause most people don't know who they ARE. Val: Maybe if they were on reality T.V. Rena: "Dancing With The Stars"!
Well, the comic is about real home life. And in real life, politics have gotten awfully scary. Art draws from life, and I applaud Jan for bringing real life issues into her comic’s world, instead of just ignoring them. One of the things I like about Stone Soup is that it doesn’t shy away from the grittiness of life (sometimes babies stink, and sometimes kids are bratty, and sometimes millionaires compromise our political process). Politics are part of life, so they’re fair game for a comic portraying a family existing in the world. If that annoys you, then maybe you should stick to Cathy, Blondie, and Dennis the Menace.
