On just another “slow news day”, when 25 + people were murdered in the U.S.. The simple fact is, what IS a “mass shooting” anymore??

But it IS the social acceptance of the carnage, and the psychotics, not the “weapon” to blame.

Probably because 7% more fatalities when there are far more people using cars than guns every day shows just how much of an issue gun violence is in this country.

The social acceptance of the carnage is not quite what dtroutma thinks it is AND I don’t think social acceptance of semi-automatic and automatic weapons that spews out hundred of bullets is appropriate

First, check how much time we spend in cars compared to how much time we spend playing with guns (even for the US)Second, cars actually have a useful purpose!

People need cars to get to and from work; they are an essential part of our economy and lifestyle, and drivers accept the risks implied when using their automobiles. Guns usage does not in any way compare.

Chillbilly’s numbers are from the CDC.http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/injury.htmA little over half of gun deaths are suicides. About 40% of gun deaths were homicides.I still don’t think the Second Amendment was supposed to guarantee the right to have a semi-automatic rifle with a 100 round magazine.

The right to hold property is pretty well enshrined in the Constitution. The ability of Government to balance such rights against the General Welfare is in there, too.The NRA and others who think the Second Amendment is the most important part of the Constitution need a reality check.

Pop 12-15 people at a time, it makes national news, and hand-wringing. Pop 25 every day, one at a time, in different locations, it makes the local news for a day, maybe. I stand by my point that society “accepts” these deaths as “rational” and just statistics. That number IS down from an average of 35 a day a few years ago, but those are HOMICIDES WITH GUNS, NOT including the accidental deaths and/or suicides of about equal numbers!!

Again, it isn’t JUST the “weapon”, but the violence of the society, and the ability to temporarily condemn, but then turn the back and IGNORE the violence!
