And when was the last time a foreign military set foot on sovereign US soil? 1815? We’re pretty much set with the navy having enough submarines to blow any potential assault vessel out of the water, and I really don’t see Canada or Mexico launching a full-scale invasion anytime soon.
(Pearl Harbor and Alaska weren’t states until 1950, and the Confederacy was still part of the United States, as no other nation recognized the CSA as a state)
