Much as I respected him as a coach, he is completely complicit in this whole filthy mess by ignoring his responsibility. Children’s lives were ruined and Paterno bears moral responsibility for that even though he wasn’t a direct perpetrator.
The saddest part of this is that Joe was so worried about his football program. His reputation was such (I personally NEVER cared for him, found him myself to be arrogant) that all he had to do was go to the authorities from the “get go”, and he would have been lauded a hero, nothing would have happened, in fact, it would have helped Penn State. “Let’s send our kids to Penn State, they really watch out for kids, it will be a safe place to send our children for college.” If Joe said “jump”, the only question was “how high”? He would have been idolized even more, now, his legacy has “crashed and burned”.
No Eryx, I thought about that, but given the time frame, I dismissed that because I figured he knew he had lung cancer and didn’t have long to live. I still think that is what happened and the timing was just coincidental to the rest of this mess.
I must say, they kept or he kept that secret pretty well, and what is really odd is that Tim Curley also has lung cancer. I mean, Joe must have been sick for awhile, you don’t just die in 3 months from that, unless he did indeed die from a broken heart. Which has been proven to actually be a cause of death. You basically lose the will to live because something has just totally destroyed your inner being.

It’s no fun when Payne gets it right. (Maybe I should have said correct, he always gets it right.)
