We ARE awash in guns. As of 2007, the Small Arms Survey found that Americans owned (privately) 88.8 guns per hundred residents. While there are margins of errors for some countries, the US is still unquestionably #1.

is estimated at 58.8 guns per 100 residents. Thus the US is 50% higher in guns per capita than #2. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Number_of_guns_per_capita_by_country

Uh, motivmagus? The “gunwalking scandal” was an action by an agency of the government of the United States, not some horrible group of people smuggling guns into the country.

If you want lower gun ownership, well, Tunisia has a gun ownership rate of 0.1— which means they have a total of 9,000 guns in their country and very strict gun control. Check out the countries at the bottom of the list and see if people are risking their life to get into those countries, or if the overwhelming majority of people in the world might be more interested in living here.

    Yep, we have more guns.

And we stand up for ourselves, too.

    That’s why America is AMERICA.

Does the NRA support any restrictions on weaponry?

I have multiple rifles, shotguns, and hand guns, but still can’t support the NRA. They adamantly oppose regulation or restrictions on firearms, like licensing, and that is idiotic.

I have NEVER had a government agency follow up on my “Brady short term paperwork”, but HAVE been contacted, inundated, by the National RIFLE Association to get me to join after registering HANDGUNS!! How did THEY get my information? When the “government” had to destroy the data in 24 hours?

I also have a concealed weapons permit, don’t want that “public”, but DO worry because it would provide information to NRA and burglars. I’m not worried about “the government” getting my guns.

“3 – You must not have been ajudicated mentally defective or been found innocent of a felony by reason of mental illness or defect.”-The problem is being adjudicated. There are many nut-jobs out there that have not been adjudicated a nut-job yet and can still have a gun. The adjudication tends to come after they’ve done their damage to other with the gun that they can legally own under that system.

Not true. It’s full of responsible gun owners. If you choose not to own a gun like so many millions that do, that’s just fine. You’re showing your hot headed, touchy feely side again.

People saying we start a war in Mexico as a reason for Obama to take our guns away. This is so stupid!

The people of Washington DC are now able to bear arms just like everyone else, thanks to Obama! He is the one who got that right secured for them! Most liberals I know, including myself Lie guns. We too would NOT give up our guns. So that is a load of crap if you think all liberals want to take away guns.

And so we all forget those folks who were killed by people using those guns provided to them UNDER A PROGRAM DIRECTED AND CONTROLLED BY THE ATTORNEY GENERAL OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!

All of the ’should’s — are those legal prohibitions?`

Per the Fortune article, one of the straw purchasers was a known meth addict, yet there was no prosecution, so is this a law?`

Does the NRA support prohibition of citizens owning assault rifles, hand grenades, military weapons?`

Not rhetorical questions — I don’t know NRAs positions, but I don’t remember ever reading anything where they said there was any weapon people shouldn’t have.

If you REALLY want to be scared by stories of nuts with guns, read some of the NRA “Armed Citizen” columns!! Time after time, shots are fire, targets missed, or folks use guns in actions that would get POLICE ARRESTED because of the blatant STUPIDITY of these morons!!

I own guns, know how to use them, and have used guns “effectively”. My experience with the NRA folks I’ve been around is that about 5% of them have any clue what to do in a real “contact” situation. Whether burglars or bears, most of them are FAR more dangerous to themselves, than their “target”.
