The airlines have been getting away with this forever: “We are not responsible if our employees rob you blind.”

More like “win the lottery, sue a company with big pockets”. Which you couldn’t do, sue a company I mean, if a corporation weren’t a ‘person’ for legal purposes, by the way. Those disclaimers were all over the place long before Citizens United…not that they actually absolve a company of legal responsibility, but they might bluff a person into thinking twice before filing a frivolous lawsuit.

I’d say she’s THINKING like an adult, but still believing like a child. Only a child would be naive enough to believe the disclaimer is legally binding.

Many business people believe that if they explicitly disavow responsibility for some possible incident they will be legally absolved. It doesn’t work that way. Take for example the “You Break It, You Buy It” signs in some shops. If you accidentally (key word here) brush against an open display breaking an item, the loss is the shopkeeper’s, not yours. It’s because the shopkeeper knowingly placed the items in a hazard (indeed, the “You Break It, You Buy It” sign can be used as a proof that the shopkeeper knew there was a hazard.) To expect a customer to pay in this instance may be construed as entrapment. `To put it concisely, liability is something for civil courts to decide, not businesses.

Well played, Wiley. There are many businesses that are honest stewards of our welfare…but they are sadly being replaced by greedy liars at an alarming rate. Many citizens are influenced by this amorality to become the same themselves, especially our young. What will destroy this great nation is the moral sickness growing within it.

Texas? The Mormons weren’t run out of Texas – it was Missouri, among other places. Sheesh! If you’re trying to present facts, you should do a little checking.

    Oh, sorry. “Facts” snicker

If individuals had a sense of personal responsibility, instead of a sense of entitlement, businesses wouldn’t need those disclaimers.

When something like DA gets deleted, could those commenting on it also delete theirs? I have no idea what DA said (and doubt I missed anything), but a retort to nothing doesn’t have much meaning either.

Trusted Mechanic: I am hardly saying don’t reply – I may guilty of a lot of things, but double standard isn’t one. If the outrage stands, by all means reply; but if it is removed, related comments should be too – they have served their purpose in context, but are baffling when the context is removed.
