I understand exaggeration for comedic effect, but if my cat ever attempted half the things Peekaboo does… she’d quickly find herself unwelcome.

This is a good case for declawing!

adoption is too good for that cat. treat it in kind: do to pt what it did to his sweat pants. NEVER LET AN ANIMAL GET AWAY WITH DESTRUCTION. EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Agree with you Ashburn Stadium Declawing only makes cats more likely to bite! and according to experts causes them to be more likely to get arthritis! I NEVER declaw my cats just through trial and error find the type of scratching post they like and keep that around. Mine have have a couple of types they love right now and they never claw furniture. I even have a 22 year old and he pretty much gets food whenever he asks for it.

Cats don’t feel guilt and don’t understand punishment like dogs do. It’s not their fault, it’s in their DNA. Punishment doesn’t work. The cat just thinks you’ve lost your mind. A loud noise or a spray of water is discomfort, and this the cat understands and should eventually learn to avoid it by stopping the behavior. But with cats, there’s no guarantee. If you don’t like it, don’t live with a cat. Just don’t think you can punish her into obeying. Like Thiser, we have a sturdy scratching post. The males use it often. The female uses an old throw rug that we have in the kitchen. Nobody uses the furniture. Everybody has their claws. We’re all happy.

My cat is currently curled up between me and the back of my chair. The only time you should have a cat declawed is if they’re strictly indoors and you don’t want your furniture torn apart. Even then, it’s a last resort option.

But going back to the strip, who would honestly try to impose rules on a cat? Her reaction is quite believable :-)

Also agree with ashburn stadium. Never declaw a cat! Amputating the last segment of their paws is horrible. Keep their claws trimmed and lots of scratching posts. We have a round one with a ball that they can knock around on it, too. Our outside cats love to just scratch a tree or fallen limb.

We had a sweet little cat named Carmie. (His full name was Caramel Sundae,because he was white with caramel colored fur swirled over him.) He didn’t need coaxed to sit on our laps. He just jumped up on us and curled up purriing. Poor thing died of feline lieukemia when he was only three and a half.

There is no last resort for declawing a cat, unless you are comfortable with having the ends of each of YOUR fingers, from the first knuckle down, removed. That’s what it amounts to. It’s not a matter of just removing the claws or clipping them short. Do a little research. And, as Thiser said, it only makes cats more likely to bite if they lose their first line of defense. Plus declawed cats frequently develop litter box problems and other neurosis. Try out different types of scratching posts, as Ray suggests. We have four in this household of three cats and one foster cat, and nobody claws the humans or the furniture. If you want a pet without claws, get a fish or a snake.

My kitty not only has her claws, she’s trained pretty darn well. She learned real fast that if you kneed mommy’s lap and get through the pants a loud noise follows and you get dumpped and denied lap, and that’s no fun.
