She wasn’t inferring anything. She was implying.

Edcole1961 has got it right. I infer something after you have implied it to me. I infer means “it is my understanding that….”

I dunno–it could go either way. If Grandma is saying “I don’t know what you’re understanding (accurately or not) from what I said,” inferring is correct. If she’s saying “I don’t know what you’re trying to say about the situation (or in reference to what I’ve said),” implying would be right.

    hey i’m a young person!

machusla: you get the music notes by holding down the alt key and hit the 1 then the 4 key of the numeric keypad on the right of your keyboard. you can make all sorts of symbols with different combos of numbers. ☺ ☻ ♥ ♦ ♣ ♠ • ◘ ○ ♫ ├ █ ☼ ► ◄ ↕ etc

    let’s see now:

    ƒ ♀ g c _ ♠ ]

ok I see. You hold down the alt key and then press down the two number keys you want, one after the other. But the symbol you want doesn’t appear until after you release the last number. Now how far can you go?

    d ╟ + , ñ ⌠•◘○♦♠☺☻♥

╚  ■  ²  Well, I think you can probably get to 255. Computer people will recognize this as a very magical number - (2x2x2… ten times, minus 1).

(To get the numbers from 1 to 4 and 6 to 9, you have to turn on Num Lock; otherwise you get the movement on the bottom of the key, for example Page Up, Home and so on.)

If you have Windows, another way is to find the character map file (search for charmap). Once that is open, go to the Arial font and find the music notes (or whatever else you want to do). Select it and copy, then you can paste away. I just found this one, which could be funny: Ѡ

Actually I was born well after this song was popular, but I do like a wide range of musical genres, from hip hop to do-wop to country to pop to hard rock. I went through a period where I listened to a lot of music from the 50’s and 60’s and still love it. I have young kids (ages 4 and 6), so you can guess about how old I might be. :-)

What I did was put a shortcut to the character map on my desktop - made it easier to access when I wanted something, such as an accented letter, as in “adiós”.
