I think it was actually kind of fun looking up a word in a big old dictionary, kind of like a scavenger hunt in a way. Half the fun was discovering a bunch of other words on the way to the word you were looking for. That being said, these days I do find it convenient to speak a word into my phone and instantly have it on the screen.
