My basement has a recessed floor drain dating from the days when you emptied your wringer washer by lowering the hose and letting it flow down the floor to the drain. My childhood cats and dogs liked to drink the water that pooled in the recessed area, so my mom would make sure to use a bucket of clear water after all the wash and rinse water had gone down the drain so they wouldn’t be drinking water full of soap and fabric softener.
